Relations between Ukraine and Denmark are characterized by a high level of understanding, interaction, and support, dynamic development of cooperation in political, trade and economic, military, humanitarian, and other spheres. Denmark is taking practical steps to support Ukraine on its path to European integration, has a clear pro-Ukrainian position in assessing the occupation of Crimea and parts of the Donbas by the Russian Federation, and has consistently advocated the prolongation of sanctions against Russia.
The Ukrainian side appreciates financial and technical assistance provided by Denmark for the implementation of important internal transformations, i.a. in the fight against corruption, decentralization, energy efficiency, and reform of the Armed Forces.
There has been a significant increase in dialogue at the highest and highest levels in recent years. The official visit by the Danish Prime Minister L.Rasmussen to Ukraine in April 2016 (the first such visit in the history of bilateral relations) became an important event in the bilateral relations. On April 5, 2017, President P.Poroshenko of Ukraine paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Denmark, which became the first for the Head of Ukrainian State for the last ten years. On June 26-27, 2018, Prime Minister V. Groysman of Ukraine paid his first official visit to Denmark, during which the Heads of Governments of both countries opened the Copenhagen Ukraine Reform Conference. The Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Denmark regularly exchange visits and meet while participating in international events.
On 18 February 2019, an informal ministerial meeting "Ukraine + Ukraine's Friends in the EU" was organized by Denmark in Brussels. On the same day, a meeting of the EU Council of Ministers on Foreign Affairs examined the document prepared by Denmark “Keeping Ukraine on its European Path”.
On 6-7 February 2020, Denmark’s Foreign Minister J.Kofod paid a working visit to Ukraine, during which the negotiations with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine V.Prystayko and Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration D. Kuleba took place. J.Kofod also visited the city of Kramatorsk and the area of JFO.
