16 September 2020 12:27

Ambassador of Ukraine Mykhaylo Vidoynyk provided the meeting with representatives of the Danish-Ukrainian Society. During the meeting the historical drama "Bitter Harvest" was present. "Bitter Harvest" - a romantic action film set in Soviet Ukraine in the early 1930s and based on true historical events,  conveys the untold story of the Holodomor. The film was directed by George Mendeluk and was written by Canadian screenwriter-actor Richard Bachynsky Hoover, based on his own Holodomor research.

Holodomor is a Ukrainian term meaning killing by starvation. This is the name given to the national catastrophe of 1932-1933, which claimed millions of lives. The famine did not emerge because of natural disasters such as drought or crop failure. The origin of the Holodomor was initiated by Moscow Communists led by Stalin back in the 1920s. This was part of a deliberate policy of the Communist regime aimed at physical elimination of the Ukrainians. The film set in Soviet Ukraine in the early 1930s and depicts the Holodomor, a genocide committed by Soviet leader Joseph Stalin against Ukrainians to destroy their culture through mass starvation.

The book of the Pulitzer Prize laureate Ann Appelbaum "Red Famine" dedicated to the Holodomor 1932-33 in Ukraine was also discussed.
