Danish construction machinery is on its way to war-torn cities in Ukraine
02 May 2022 14:00

According to the Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs of Denmark, the first stock of construction equipment for cleaning and reconstruction has been organized for delivery to Ukraine in the coming days. The 35 vehicles will include excavators, road rollers, front loaders, fractional screeners, trucks, dump trucks and heavy equipment trailers.

The purchase of these machines, which were used but in very good working condition, was carried out through a public-private partnership between the Danish government, the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) and a number of Danish companies. The total budget for financing the purchase of machinery is 40 million kroner ($5.7 mln), it was formed by equal contributions from the state (20 mln kr.) and four private foundations, each of which contributed 5 mln kr.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine previously approved the list of equipment and confirmed the urgent need to receive it. At the same time, the Danish side is exploring the possibilities for transferring additional equipment to Ukraine in the future.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Denmark Mykhailo Vydoinyk said on this occasion: “Ukraine has suffered devastating destruction as a result of Russian aggression. At least 23.5 thousand kilometres of roads are damaged or destroyed, as well as 32 million square meters of housing stock. But Ukrainian cities, liberated from occupation, are gradually restoring life. Our emergency services are under a lot of pressure, as they have to make a titanic effort in the absence of the right equipment. We are very grateful to Denmark for its support in this matter. Donated cars will immediately be involved in the war against devastation, debris and damaged roads which Ukraine also has to win.”

Minister of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs of Denmark Simon Kollerup, in turn, said that Denmark is doing everything possible to help the Ukrainian people. He noted the efforts of Danish foundations, which, together with government agencies, contributed to this humanitarian donation, that will help rebuild Ukraine, and also thanked the involved companies for their good collaboration.
