Divine Liturgy and Memorial Service in commemoration of the Holodomor victims Remembrance Day
28 November 2021 16:00

On 28 November 2021, the staff of the Embassy together with the Ukrainian community of Copenhagen took part in the Divine Liturgy and Memorial Service at the St. Ansgar's Cathedral dedicated to the Holodomor victims Remembrance Day.

Rev. Vasyl Tykhovych, a priest of the UGCC in Denmark, held the ceremony to commemorate the millions of victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933, organized by the totalitarian communist regime against the Ukrainian people, as well as of mass artificial famines of 1921-1923 and 1946-1947.

The Holodomor in Ukraine has become one of the most horrific mass crimes in human history. It caused the death of millions of Ukrainians in Ukraine and Kuban, did irreparable harm to the Ukrainian mentality and culture, and broke the bond between generations.

Ukraine calls on the international community to show solidarity in recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-33 as an act of genocide. So far, 15 foreign states have made such decisions at the parliamentary level, 9 – at the regional level. A number of international organizations have issued official statements in this regard.

We must preserve the memory of millions of victims to prevent such crimes from happening again in the future. This is the moral duty of the Ukrainian state and society to past and future generations.
