03 April 2021 11:00

On 2 April 2021, eighteen members of the European Parliament expressed concern over the ongoing build-up of Russian military forces and provocations in eastern Ukraine and close to Ukraine.

Representatives of Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia called on full adherence to the text and spirit of the Minsk agreements and to the agreed ceasefire.

They urged Russia to cease its military provocations and intimidation against Ukraine. MEPs also appealed to the international community and leaders of democratic countries “to express their concern and strong disapproval to the actions of the Russian authorities”.

“We will continue to closely monitor the situation in eastern Ukraine in order to deescalate tensions and eventually reinstate the territorial integrity of Ukraine”, MEPs concluded.

On behalf of Denmark, the statement was signed by Karen Melchior, a member of the Danish Social Liberal Party (“Radikale Venstre”), a member of the centrist faction of the European Parliament “Renew Europe”.
