On 1 September 2022, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark Jeppe Kofod during a meeting in Kyiv discussed support for Ukraine, the development of public-private partnerships and the rebuilding of Ukraine.
Denys Shmyhal thanked Jeppe Kofod for another visit and stressed that visiting Kyiv in the first months of a full-scale war was a very important signal of support from Denmark.
“Denmark continues to be our reliable partner. We highly appreciate its comprehensive support, in particular, in the field of supplying military technologies and weapons, in the field of humanitarian assistance, the creation of places for the treatment of wounded people in Ukraine,” the Prime Minister noted.
The Head of the Ukrainian government noted that the supply of weapons for Ukraine today is the number one task to protect the country and European borders. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Denmark for supporting the allocation of appropriate military assistance in the amount of 1.5 billion euros.
In addition, Denys Shmyhal and Jeppe Kofod discussed gas supplies in the context of the recent meeting of the heads of governments of the Nordic countries and Germany, as well as the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The Prime Minister stressed that Ukraine has been responsible for managing five nuclear power plants for more than 30 years.
“Now, throughout this war, Russia has seized the Zaporizhzhia NPP and creates high risks at the plant. Russian troops do not have a culture of behaviour with nuclear facilities. And this is a big threat to us, Europe and the world. Today the International Atomic Energy Agency mission is to visit the station. We expect that this will be the first step towards the complete demilitarization of ZNPP,” Denys Shmyhal noted.
Separately, the Prime Minister thanked Denmark for cooperation in the field of public-private partnership, in particular, in the context of attracting private investment to Ukraine in the coming years.
“After the Conference in Lugano, where we presented the Plan for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, we consolidated the countries to discuss how we will rebuild our state. Now we must implement the first part – the restoration of critical infrastructure. We are discussing with partners how to implement this as soon as possible,” the Head of Government said.
The Danish Foreign Minister thanked Ukraine and Ukrainians for fighting for their freedom and for the freedom of everyone in Europe. Jeppe Kofod stressed that Denmark will continue to support Ukraine, both in the military sphere and in reconstruction. In particular, a new aid package is being prepared.
