Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk on the margins of the Conference of Speakers of the European Union Parliaments (EUSC) met with the speakers of the countries participating in the event. In particular, he had bilateral meetings with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, the speakers of the parliaments of Austria, Denmark and North Macedonia.
This is reported by the Administration of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The head of the Ukrainian Parliament thanked his colleagues for their constant support of Ukraine and the high level of inter-parliamentary relations between the countries. He also called on the speakers to increase and strengthen their capabilities in helping Ukraine for the sake of a common peaceful future.
Separately, he thanked the speakers of European parliaments for supporting Ukraine on the path to European integration and membership in the family of European nations. He emphasized that despite the war Ukraine has fulfilled all seven requirements of the European Commission which were set when obtaining candidate status.
The speakers also raised the issues of the future architecture of global security. In this vein, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament called on his colleagues to support Ukraine’s application to join the Alliance at the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius, since Ukraine has long been ready for membership and will become a significant reinforcement for the countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in protecting the security of Europe and the world.
In addition, the participants discussed a number of issues important for the future of Ukraine and the European continent, in particular the establishment of justice and responsibility for an unprovoked war in the centre of Europe and the creation of a special tribunal for Russia for the crime of aggression, support for the Ukrainian Peace Formula and the patronage of European countries over certain of its points, recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, recognition of Russia as a sponsor of terrorism, etc.
The speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament also invited fellow speakers of European parliaments to take part in the II Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform which will be held in October this year in Prague.
Speaker of the Folketing of Denmark Søren Gade noted during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart that Denmark is absolutely, one hundred percent close to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian aggression.
“There are no such issues that we cannot discuss and provide support. We see that one country is flouting another because it is bigger. Therefore, we stand next to Ukraine,” the Speaker of the Danish Parliament said.
He also noted that Denmark will continue to provide comprehensive support, in particular, military support, and a special Ukraine Fund has already been created, following the example of Norway, to make sure that we will help not only today and tomorrow, but also the day after tomorrow, to meet the necessary needs of Ukraine.
According to him, Denmark speaks loudly about its support for Ukraine in order to set an example for those countries that have greater possibilities for assistance, because only together Europe and the world can achieve peace on the continent.
