On 8-9 May, Ukraine marks the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, as well as the Victory Day over Nazism in World War II.
During these days it is important to remember those who fought for the liberation of Ukrainian territories from the invaders, who died on the battlefields, as well as victims of Nazi torture chambers and concentration camps.
Ukraine made a significant contribution to the victory over Nazism. However, this victory cost us too much. According to various estimates, from 5 to 7 million Ukrainians were victims of a bloody war. In fact, every fifth Ukrainian gave his/her life for the victory.
History teaches us that the Ukrainian people triumphs when we are united, act together and defend what is dear to us.
Therefore, let us pay tribute to the memory of those whose courage, heroism and self-sacrifice we owe our lives.
Remember them, their historic deeds, and honour those who are still alive.
