On the 386th day of the war, on 16 March 2023, Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark Mykhailo Vydoinyk took part in the annual Summit of Local Government of Denmark (“Municipal-Political Summit”) organized in Aalborg by the National Association of Municipalities of Denmark (“KL – Local Government Denmark”).
More than 1,500 participants attended this year′s Summit, including Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen, Members of the Danish Government and the Folketing, heads of political parties and 98 mayors of Danish cities.
At the opening of the event, Chairman of the Association of Ukrainian Cities Vitalij Klytjko addressed the audience in a video format.
In turn, Ambassador Mykhailo Vydoinyk in his speech thanked the Government of Denmark and Danish municipalities for the broad support of Ukraine, for the creation of a Ukraine Fund, as well as for helping forced displaced persons from Ukraine who found refuge from the war throughout Denmark. Separately, the head of the diplomatic mission emphasized the importance of continued participation of Danish municipalities in helping Ukraine, called on the mayors of Danish cities to establish and develop sister relations with Ukrainian cities, as well as to actively participate in the rebuilding of Ukraine.
During the visit, the Ambassador of Ukraine met with Mayor of Odense Peter Rahbæk Juel and Mayor of Aalborg Thomas Kastrup-Larsen. The Mayor of Aalborg confirmed his readiness to start sisterly relations with the City of Mykolaiv.
