A Ukrainian couple of illustrators Romana Romanyshyn and Andriy Lesiv are the authors of both publications. They work in the field of book design and illustration, specializing in graphics and painting. Their books have been published in South Korea, France, Argentina, Slovenia, Slovakia and Poland.
Cognitive picture book «I See So» (“Jeg ser det”) tells children about how vision works, and about various optical devices. The book “Loud, Quiet, Whispering” (“Højlydt, stille, hviskende”) tells about hearing and also conveys scientific facts in an unusual visual way. Danish journalist Johannes Wamberg Andersen worked on the translation of both books.
In 2018, both of these books received the main award in the category “Non-Fiction” of the annual “Bologna Ragazzi Award” competition which takes place as part of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. This award is one of the most prestigious for publishers, authors and illustrators from around the world.
Before that, the book “I See So” became the winner of the Ukrainian competition “Best Book Design” taking 1st place and winning the Grand Prix. And the book “Loud, Quiet, Whispering” was awarded the “BIB Plaque” award from the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (2017).
The books have been presented to Danish readers online, but the authors are waiting for the quarantine restrictions to be lifted in order to present the books in Denmark in person.
