On 26 June 1991, the second Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People – the supreme representative plenipotentiary body of the Crimean Tatars – began its work in Simferopol.
For the first time, the Crimean Tatar Flag was adopted by the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatars in 1917, immediately after the February Revolution. It was readopted in 1991, after the declaration of independence of Ukraine.
After Russia occupied the Ukrainian Crimea, the Crimean Tatar Flag became a common symbol of the struggle of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars for the return of Crimea to Ukraine. Today, 26 June 2022, it will be raised throughout Ukraine and abroad.
The national flag of the Crimean Tatar people was also solemnly raised on the building of the Ukrainian diplomatic institution, along with the State Flag of Ukraine.
