26 June 2022 14:00

On 25 June 2022, the Embassy of Lithuania in Denmark, together with the Danish Film Institute (“Cinemateket”), organized the screening of the documentary film “Mariupolis” filmed in 2016 by the world famous Lithuanian director Mantas Kvedaravičius.

The event was dedicated to the memory of the Lithuanian director, who worked as a documentary filmmaker in Mariupol during the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 but was captured, tortured and shot by the Russian occupation forces.

“Mariupolis” was filmed in a joint production of Lithuania, Germany, France and Ukraine. The world premiere of the film took place on 14 February 2016 at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film tells about the everyday life of the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, which even before the active phase of the Russian-Ukrainian war was located directly next to the front line.

This is the second film about the war directed by Mantas Kvedaravičius. In 2011, he made “Barzakh” about torture and kidnapping in Chechnya which received an award at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark Mykhailo Vydoynik invited to observe a minute of silence in memory of the deceased director, as well as of the victims of the war in Ukraine.
