On 8 May 2022, on the day of the anniversary of the surrender of Nazi Germany, the Embassy of Ukraine in Denmark, together with the Association of Ukrainians of Denmark, the Volunteer Union “Bevar Ukraine” and the Ukrainian community, marked the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation.
In order to honor the memory of the soldiers who lost their lives during World War II, the diplomatic mission employees laid flowers at the “Our Fallen” monument, which is located at the entrance to the Kastellet citadel and commemorates the Danish and allied troops fallen during that war.
Ambassador Mykhailo Vydoinyk also made an address at a commemorative event organized at Kongens Nytorv in the heart of Copenhagen. In his address, the Ambassador noted the importance of uniting all Ukrainians in the world at this difficult time for Ukraine, when Russia is trying to destroy our statehood, and thanked Denmark and the Danish people for the significant support of Ukrainians.
The participants and guests of the event were also addressed by Chairman of the Association of Ukrainians of Denmark Andrii Kuzmyn, Chairman of the charity organization “Help Ukrainian Children” Lesia Ignatyk-Eriksen, activist and volunteer Liudmyla Waller and co-founder of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Centre Nataliia Popovych.
The honorary guest of the event was the Head of the Chechen community in Denmark Ilyas Musaev.
Commemorative events were held with musical performances by the Danish band “Mod Solen”, the Ukrainian-Danish band “RUNA”, Ukrainian performers Mariya Samoylenko, Yulia Sydorchuk, Tetiana Kirillova, as well as opera singer Natalie Vorobiova.
