On the 27th day of the war, on 22 March 2022, Ambassador of Ukraine Mykhailo Vydoinyk took part in an extraordinary meeting of the Nordic Council, held in the Swedish city of Malmö.
A separate session on the theme “Europe at war again – what can the Nordic region do in order to help Ukraine and increase security in the Nordic region, Europe and the world?” was devoted to Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
In a joint statement from the Ukrainian Ambassadors to the Scandinavian countries, Mykhailo Vydoinyk addressed the representatives of the parliamentary delegations of the Nordic countries with an appeal “to tighten the economic noose around the neck of the aggressor so much, that it cannot spend a single penny for military purposes.”
“A complete breakdown of economic ties, a complete rejection of Russian products, a complete embargo on trade with Russia. Only in this way can we end this war and improve security in Europe,” the head of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission said.
During the session, the parliamentarians of the Nordic and Baltic countries categorically condemned Russia’s heinous invasion of Ukraine and expressed maximum support for Ukraine. During a press opportunity, the Ukrainian Ambassador expressed gratitude for the help that Ukraine receives from the Nordic countries, but called for even more military assistance. Separately, an issue of Nordic countries′ participation in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine was raised.
