On the 23rd day of the war, on 18 March 2022, the Ukrainian Ambassador was received by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark. The interlocutors discussed the strengthening of the EU sanctions against Russia which will make it impossible for Putin’s regime to continue its aggression against Ukraine. It was stressed that such conditions must be created, so that these sanctions cannot be circumvented with the help of third countries.
Mykhailo Vydoinyk underlined that Ukraine insists on speeding up the procedures for providing Ukraine, as a state at war, with military and humanitarian assistance. He also expressed criticism of Danish companies that have decided to continue their “business as usual” with Russia.
Jeppe Kofod confirmed that Denmark will continue its active policy to secure EU support for the strongest sanctions against the aggressor, as well as its direct support for Ukraine. In particular, he announced that Denmark has allocated 150 million kroner to the World Bank, which had set up a special mechanism to support the public sector of Ukraine for a total amount of more than 6 billion kroner.
In the context of discussing Ukraine’s application for EU candidate status, the Danish Foreign Minister stated that Ukraine already belongs to the European family of democracies.
So far, the total amount of humanitarian assistance provided by the Danish government to Ukraine has amounted to more than 500 million kroner. In particular, it has delivered for the activities of international humanitarian organizations in Ukraine: 50 million kroner – to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, 30 million kroner –to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, 25 million kroner – to the UN Children's Fund, 20 million kroner – to the International Committee of the Red Cross, 8 million kroner – for the Danish Emergency Relief Fund. Another 100 million kroner was allocated through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) for medicines and medical supplies needed by Ukraine, and 100 million kroner on the activities of Danish humanitarian organizations operating in Ukraine and neighbouring countries. In addition, a civilian mobile hospital and equipment for civil defence (worth 22.2 million kroner) and a tent camp for refugees in Moldova (worth 5 million kroner) were donated for the needs of Ukraine.
