The interlocutors discussed main differences between the Danish vaccine and other vaccines that have already been approved or are at various stages of development.
Vladyslav Soroka noted that the Danish vaccine (codenamed “ABNCoV2”) is fundamentally different from the existing ones in that it is very similar in structure to a real virus but consists of two safe proteins. It is cheaper to produce, does not require special storage conditions, which simplifies its transportation and usage.
The Danish vaccine has already undergone preclinical study and has shown excellent results in animals. According to the Ukrainian scientist, the new vaccine shows much higher efficiency than other existing analogues, namely it produces an order of magnitude higher concentration of antibodies in the body, which will provide a stronger immune response for a longer time.
The vaccine is currently being tested for effectiveness against various strains of the virus. On 15 March, a clinical trial in humans began. The first two phases of testing will be conducted at the Radboud University Medical Center in the city of Nijmegen (Netherlands), which together with Danish academic institutions is a member of the Danish-German- Netherlands consortium for the development of a vaccine against Covid-19 “Prevent-nCoV”. The third phase of testing will be organized by the Danish biotechnology company “Bavarian Nordic” in Germany.
If the third phase of testing is successfully completed, the new vaccine will be put into production immediately and may be available for use, including in Ukraine in early 2022.
Discussing the overall situation with vaccination against Covid-19, the Ukrainian scientist said that he is an active supporter of vaccination. However, according to him, isolated reports of significant side effects, such as paralysis of the body or even fatalities, require careful scientific study and analysis, and should not be used by the media as bombshells to raise their ratings or to hinder the vaccination campaign. “Studies and comparisons of the same samples of vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals usually show similar results. There are cases of significant illness, paralysis, thrombosis or even death in both of them. As these studies show, they are not related to the vaccine. The main principle is that vaccination has a thousand times lower risk for people than the disease itself and ensures the normal life of society”, said Vladyslav Soroka.
