On the 44th day of the war, on 8 April 2022, the Ukrainian Ambassador met with the head of the Danish department responsible for school education.
During the conversation, the interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues related to the provision of educational services for Ukrainian children who, fleeing the war, left Ukraine for Denmark.
The head of the Ministry promised to take measures to create comfortable conditions for Ukrainian children to allow them to adapt to the new educational process in Denmark. In particular, it is planned to assist school-age children in continuing their online and offline education in the Ukrainian language in accordance with the Ukrainian educational program until the end of the current academic year. First of all, this is about high school students. In order to do this, at the request of Ukrainian parents, separate classes can be created in Danish schools and the necessary computer equipment provided. Danish municipalities are also ready to engage teachers (including with possibility of payment) from among the internally displaced persons from Ukraine to teach Ukrainian children, so they could complete the current academic year according to the Ukrainian educational program.
In addition, it was agreed that local schools can assist in organizing conditions for students from Ukraine to take final exams online. If necessary, it could be considered continuing online education for Ukrainian students for the next academic year.
Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil also assured that in order to create favourable conditions for the education of Ukrainian children in Danish schools, clear explanations have already been given to all municipalities in Denmark. This also applies to kindergartens, where local authorities are ready to recruit educators from Ukraine. At the same time, the Minister emphasized that children of primary school age (up to 9 grade inclusive) must attend Danish schools at their place of temporary residence, and their parents can apply straight away to these schools without waiting for a temporary residence permit in Denmark.
